Guidance/Template for Organic Regulation Development

Regulations on organic agriculture have multiple objectives.  They can support organic sector development, but if implemented too early in this development, or poorly designed, they can conversely, suppress sector development.  Objectives of these regulations are often not only to promote the sector but also to protect consumers from false and misleading claims.

This section will be relevant to those governments and advocates who are interested to investigate the appropriateness, feasibility and process of establishing a government regulation for organic agriculture and trade in their country’s context.

IFOAM- Organics International provides such guidance and a template for a government regulation on its website.  The link below will take you to the IFOAM Guidance.  Use the top – left arrow key to return from there to the Pacific Toolkit.
