New POETCom Board takes office

A new POETCom Board was voted in on, 19 November the last day of the POETCom General Assembly, with a milestone of 40% women represented; and POETCom Chair and co-Chair positions now held by women leaders within Pacific the organic sector.

By POETCom statutes, the Board establishes rules of procedure for the Advisory Board and the General Assembly, which are to be approved by the General Assembly. In addition, the Board may make decisions on issues not yet determined by the General Assembly.

The Statutes further add that the Board may set up working groups, committees and regional or thematic task groups. It may also delegate specific tasks to such bodies or to individuals. The Board takes decisions by consensus or simple majority with at least half of the members present and by open vote.

Congratulations to all Board members! We look forward to your guidance as we continue to steer towards a sustainable and organic Pacific!

POETCom also gives a huge thank you to the outgoing Board that has held the fort for the past four years!

Over 20 years experience in the development sector at UNDP, current Board member at the Women in Business Development Inc. (WIBDI) and Market Access Working Group (MAWG) in Samoa.

He is a founding Member of the Tonga National Youth Congress, an organic association in Tonga. Mr. Havea is passionate about Community Development looking at communities from inside, promoting local governance and resilience.
