The 2015-2025 POETCom Strategic Plan is a gender inclusive people-centred approach – a first in the global organic movement. Delivery on this Activity began with a review of previous POETCom Strategic Plans by the POETCom Gender Specialist in order to harvest gender and value chain lessons learned, resulting in a POETCom Strategic Plan Gender Gaps and Opportunities report. The findings and recommendations of this report, along with substantial inputs from POETCom staff, board, and a wide spectrum of stakeholders went through an extensive drafting, commenting and revision process resulting in the 2021-2025 POETCom Strategic Plan which was approved by the POETCom Board on 3 July 2020.
The five-year strategy, managed by the Pacific Organic and Ethical Trade Community (POETCom) of the Pacific Community is also leading edge by placing greater emphasis on Pacific values, traditions and cultures through better understanding of Pacific approaches to decision making, as well as expanding POETCom’s organic certification training and policy development programmes. POETCom is a project of the Pacific Community’s (SPC) Land Resources Division.
As POETCom’s first post-COVID-19 long-term initiative to harness the continued enthusiasm for organics throughout the Pacific, the new strategy focuses on resilience and growth in organic agriculture, a sector hit hard by the pandemic.
