Arthur and Karen Mills are experienced organic farmers who have been operating their Mudrenicagi Estate in Fiji since 2015. They have successfully cultivated a variety of organic products on their organic farm, which has recently been recognized as an Organic Learning Farm Centre under the Pacific Organic Learning Farm Network Project (POLFN) implemented by the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Pacific Organic and Ethical Trade Community (POETCom).
Together with their small staff, Arthur and Karen cultivate taro, cassava, kava, coconut, lemon, vanilla, coffee and cocoa on their farm. They also manage a small poultry farm with 250 chickens and sell eggs to local shops and communities in the province of Bua. The Mudrenicagi farm sits on 93.3 acres of land and is home to 40 beehives that produced 425 kilogrammes of organic honey in 2022.
The Mudrenicagi Organic Learning Farm follows permaculture principles, creating self-sufficient and sustainable systems. With support from the POLFN Project, the farm will serve as an organic learning centre for other farmers and agricultural actors interested organic agriculture and receiving first-hand experience on sustainable organic farming systems.
